Election campaign posters for the rival ruling party candidates in Zanzibar’s 2010 election, Ali Mohamed Shein (bottom) and Seif Sharif Hamad, are stuck face to face on a peeling public corridor wall of Michinzani flats. Mr Ali Mzee Ali who chaired a committee of six that laid out the framework for a Government of National Unity in Zanzibar and required a referendum to amend the Constitution, said at the time that there could be no peace and political stability in the Isles without bringing people together.
