Young men gather at a baraza (stoops) at the foot of a Michinzani stairwell, that serves as shop for bicycle maintenance. As one of the transformations of the material cultural landscape, barazas have been built by the residence for socialising and commercial purposes. The role of baraza is deeply embedded in Swahili cultural history, as major loci of social interaction through neighborliness.
